At Snowshoe Farm, we shear our alpacas annually - in the Spring - and spend the next few months
skirting fiber and sorting with an eye to characteristics such as fineness, color and staple length. In the end,
we put together several batches of fiber that we send off to different mills depending on the processes involved
in turning the fiber into yarn or roving.
Alpacas come in a wide array of natural colors and we try to have an assortment in our pastures. We blend
fleeces from several alpacas for each batch of yarn. As a result, we are usually able to offer yarns in a variety of
natural colors ranging from creamy white, through heathery fawns, grays, browns and black. Our dyed yarns are
hand-dyed at the farm. Quantities are limited
Our online yarn shop is in the works and will be ready soon. Thank you for your patience! In the meantime, please call or e-mail to request yarn samples.
